The Layout
The layout of the Jezebel homepage is perfect. It's clean, not cluttered, easy to read, and inviting. The titles of each blog post are big and quite often hilarious, and every post has either a picture or video to the side of it to help the reader get an idea of what it is about. Bolding of important words or phrases is used quite well, and the part of the blog shown is often kept to a shorter length (with the rest hidden behind a cut) so as to leave the page not cluttered.
The Content
Let's be honest. I don't come to Jezebel because the layout is pretty to look at. Instead, I come for the content. Due to the fact that Jezebel has 12 contributors and editors, the content is varied, informative, and does an excellent job of satisfying any need a blog viewer may have. Here are just a few of the many different topics and blog posts Jezebel has to offer.
- Loose Lips-interesting quotes from celebrities, politicians, or even regular people
- Snap Judgement- a picture that catches someone (usually someone famous) in a candid pose that is posted without a caption or contextual information, allowing the reader to make his or her own observation
- Live Blogs-as the name suggests, this typical type of post has a contributor doing a live blog, on anything from the Republican and Democratic National Conventions to the most recent episode of Mad Men
- News Roundup- Again, pretty self-explanatory. This is a bulleted list of the weeks biggest news stories, with links to the original Jezebel post about the item as well as to other news sources
- Fine Lines- this is probably my favorite part of Jezebel. This is a weekly post done by one of the editors who has re-read one of their favorite books from their teenage years. It's great to have a blast from the past like this mixed in with current events.
Though Jezebel is slightly skewed to women, it's such an awesome blog that everyone should check it out as there will be something interesting and or entertaining.
